Autumn is – for me – the best season for visiting the mountains. You don’t have to leave home so early, so you can get an hour or two more sleep. We also often want to find the warm sun somewhere higher because the fog is in the valleys. And then there are all those colors, yellow, orange, red, and gold. So, where can we find many colored larch trees in the surroundings of Kranjska Gora?
1.) MOUNTAIN SLEMENOVA ŠPICA
Undoubtedly the most famous is Slemenova Špica. A marked path from Vršič can lead to it, so it is also suitable for children, dogs, and those with less fitness. Moreover, it offers beautiful views all around. But – beware – during the larch season, especially at the end of the week, it can be very crowded, so it may happen that you will walk in a line and have to move away from passers-by all the time.
2.) MOUNTAIN TRUPEJEVO AND MALOŠKO POLDNE
Trupejevo and Maloško Poldne are less well-known and less visited peaks, as no marked path leads them. However, in the beginning, you can follow the Alpe Adria Trail, and a little before the summit, turn left and follow the unmarked path. The trip itself starts at village Srednje Vrh, where we leave the car in the marked parking lot. Along the way, you will be accompanied by many larch trees, and at the top, in good weather, you will enjoy exceptional views.
3.) MOUNTAIN MACESNOVEC (LARCHE)
Masesnovec is an overgrown mountain with larch trees. The route starts in Kot valley. In the beginning, we walk along the marked path towards hut Staničev dom, but a little further from the well, we turn left onto an unmarked but otherwise well visible path. Along the way, we climb about 1,000 meters in height, taking 3 hours. The view is superb, but the trail is partly demanding and steep.
4.) MOUNTAIN VITRANC AND CIPRNIK
These peaks may also be less visited and lower, but their views are no less beautiful. A marked path leads from Lake Jasna. From Planica leads the unmarked trail direct to the top of Ciprnik. You will have exceptional views of all the surrounding mountains, and you will also see the ski jumps, where the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships will take place from 21 February to 5 March 2023.
5.) VRŠIČ PASS
You can go to Vršič Pass on foot from Kranjska Gora along the marked path that leads to the top or reach it by car. Perhaps this idea is also attractive to those who can no longer walk but would like to enjoy the beautiful weather, views, and golden larch trees. From Vršič, you can go to other peaks.
Perhaps another idea – visit hut Mihov dom, which in 2022 has again become the best mountain hut in Slovenia.
But a safe step, even such an easy path, should not be underestimated. I share my tips and ideas of what to see and experience, but each one must take safety care of safety alone. Therefore, for any injuries and accidents, I do not accept responsibility. Everyone knows how much they can do.
Until next time, Bini
