Cycling from the Kranjska Gora to the Belopeška Lakes
Several providers in Kranjska Gora rent trekking, mountain, or electric bikes. So my partner Klemen and I decided to rent them this time at Sporti Bar, located right next to the Dolenčev rut ski slope, a large car park, and a cycle track connecting Kranjska Gora with Podkoren, Rateč, and Italy or, on the other side, with village Gozd Martuljek, Mojstrana, and Jesenice.
Of course, rental prices vary depending on the choice of bike, the season, and the amount of time you want to spend on your bike. Otherwise, I prefer to go to the peaks and wander the unmarked trails, so I’m not an avid cyclist. Nevertheless, my partner and I rented electric bikes and drove to Italy on a well-maintained bike path.
Belopeška Lakes, Laghi di Fusine in Italian are located in a beautiful place, under the foothills of Mangart, Ponce, and Vevnica. They are the starting point for many tours to the high mountains. I have already visited the Rifugio Zacchi hut and continued my way to the hill Visoka Ponca. Back to the starting point, I returned across the Srednja Ponca. You can also get to the Rifugio Zacchi hut by bike, but we didn’t opt for that option this time. Instead, we preferred to enjoy the lower and upper lakes, looking at the mighty walls and the cute ducks. The weather was great, and the views were beautiful, although the forecast was for thunderstorms and fog.
Then we cycled along the forest path to Acleta and began to return to Slovenia and Kranjska Gora. We did about 30 kilometers. It is about 10 kilometers from Kranjska Gora to the Belopeška lakes. Of course, cycling trips can be extended or upgraded – there are plenty of options. For example, you can cycle further to Trbiž, the Tamar Valley, or the city Jesenice. Many people also like to cycle to the Vršič Pass or past the Peričnik Waterfall to the Aljaž’s Hut in the Vrata Valley. There is also a cycle path to the top of the mountain Tromeja or Peč.
Such feats are even more accessible with an electric bike, although you’ll still burn a few calories and work your muscles a bit.
But safe driving. I share my tips and ideas of what to see and experience with you, but everyone has to take care of safety independently. Therefore, I do not accept responsibility for any injuries and accidents. Everyone knows how much he can do.
Until next time, Bini
